Are you the parent of a young adult who:
  • has mental health challenges?
  • is struggling on the way to independent adulthood?
  • is dealing with other challenges with which you would like support?
REAL Parent Support is a monthly group for parents of adult children who struggle. Join us to connect,  support each other and share strategies for self-care.

Facilitated by parent and congregant Amy Barad in conjunction with Rabbi Stacy Friedman (who will attend most meetings). RSVP to JoAnne Forman, REAL Mental Health Initiative Coordinator, at [email protected].

From our facilitator, Amy Barad:
As parents in Marin, we have abundant experience and resources to pull from when our kids face "typical" adolescent and young adult challenges. However, we are generally unprepared for the emotional roller coaster we experiecne when our child lives with mental illness or is struglging with independence. Many of us have the support of our friends and family, but someimes we need to connect with other parents who have walked in our shoes - someone who knows what it's like to live with uncertainty, to drop everything to deal with the current crisis, or to face daily endless challenges with no clear end game. I invite you to join me in a supportive environment to talk about our experiences as parents, to share how we are coping with our challenges, and to offer each other support.

About Amy:
Amy and her family have been Rodef Sholom members for about 20 years. Married for 37 years, she and Seth have two sons in their 20s. She has participated in Rodef Sholom's Mental Health Initiative since its inception, working on the missions statement and various projects.

REAL Grandparent Support
Thursdays—November 14, and December 12 | 10:00-11:30am |
Rodef Sholom Conference Room
Facilitated by Alyse Clayman, LCSW and Ralph Daniel, PhD.

If you’re a grandparent dealing with: A complicated relationship with your adult child and/or their partner; your adult child’s divorce; divided loyalties; concerns about how your grandchildren are being parented, or developing relationships with your grandchildren in ever-changing times, we can help!

Learn tools, share struggles, and get ideas and support from professionals and other grandparents around how to navigate the complicated issues related to being a grandparent. This group will provide concrete tools to help improve communication with adult children and sons/daughters-in-law that you can start using today, and information on your grandchildren’s age and developmental stage and access to tools and resources to help you better understand your grandchildren’s behaviors and social-emotional needs, and build authentic relationships with them

RSVP to JoAnne Forman, REAL Mental Health Initiative Program Coordinator.

The REAL Mental Health Initiative at Rodef Sholom is supported by the Lazlo N. Tauber Family Foundation
