A Brief History

 

1956
Founded in San Rafael with 30 families.

1962
Moved to our current site—a newly built synagogue.

1987
Created the Jewish Community Campus, located on the Lonee C. Hoytt Jewish Campus near the Marin County Civic Center, campus partners include the Osher Marin Jewish Community Center and Brandeis Marin, an independent Jewish K-8 day school. Rodef Sholom grew to around 300 families.

2005
Embarked on a community visioning process with our campus partners to chart the course of Jewish life in Marin County.

2018
Began capital campaign to build our new synagogue building and sacred space to carry us through the next century.

2021
The capital campaign raised $30 million dollars with another $6 million still needed to reach our goal for the project.

2022
On Sunday, June 12, 2022, we broke ground for our new synagogue, a sacred space for current and future generations. We marked this momentous occasion by carrying the Torahs and the light of the Ner Tamid, our Eternal Light, to our new temporary home in the Osher Marin JCC. We are now a vibrant and thriving community of 1,100 families.
