Organizing Around Our Values, Part II: From Conversation to Action

ORGANIZING AROUND OUR VALUES, PART II: FROM CONVERSATION TO ACTION

THURSDAY, MARCH 16, 7:00 PM, SANCTUARY

Last month we gathered for an initial conversation in response to the executive order barring immigrants and travelers from seven countries and our concern as a Jewish community that the order goes against some of our deepest Jewish values. But our concern extends beyond just the travel ban. As became clear from our conversations with you, our community's concern extends to the many communities that are vulnerable at this time, as well as the rise in hate crimes and hate speech across our nation that impacts us directly. We heard from you that your greatest priority at this time is to build stronger relationships with our neighbors and to work in multiple modalities to address anti-Semitism, Islamophobia, and the rise in Nativist sentiment.

In our March 16 meeting, we will organize ourselves into action groups that include:

  1. Taking steps to become a Sanctuary Synagogue
  2. Addressing anti-Semitism and building a rapid response team and broader coalition against hate
  3. Immigration
  4. Connection to Reform movement work at the state and national level

We will be joined by Rabbi Jessica Kirschner from Reform California and the Religious Action Center. We strongly encourage you to attend as we at Rodef Sholom continue to build a strong social justice core. If you would like to be involved and are unable to attend the meeting, please contact Molly at [email protected] and we will make sure you are a part of our ongoing efforts.
