7:00 PM - 8:30 PMRodef Sholom Sanctuary

We are delighted to welcome Tel Aviv University Professor Alon Tal, environmental diplomacy expert, visiting Professor at Stanford University, and former Knesset member, for a far-reaching presentation on climate change, environmental leadership, public policy, and peacebuilding in the Middle East. In 1996, Dr. Tal founded the Arava Institute for Environmental Studies (AIES), a graduate studies center in which Israeli, Jordanian, and Palestinian students join environmentalists from around the world with the aim of training future leaders of the region in sustainability issues so that they can cooperate in solving regional environmental problems. AIES works to strengthen dialogue between Israelis and Palestinians and implement climate resiliency programming, and was nominated for a Nobel Peace Prize in 2024, for "groundbreaking work in the fields of dialogue and diplomacy, climate engagement, education, and research."

Professor Tal is the author of many books including Making Climate Tech Work : Policies That Drive Innovation (Island Press), All the Trees for the Forest – Israel’s Woodlands from the Bible to the Present (Yale University Press), and The Land Is Full: Addressing Overpopulation in Israel (Yale University Press). Learn more about Professor Tal's groundbreaking environmental work.
