Chanukah 2019

This year, we light the first Chanukah candle on Sunday night, December 22, and the last candles on Sunday night, December 29.

Candles are added to the chanukiah from right to left but are lit from left to right. The newest candle is lit first. On the Shabbat of Chanukah, we light the Chanukah candles first and then the Shabbat candles.

chanukah at rodef sholom - friday, december 27

Junior Jews Chanukah Pajama Party
4:30 pm, Sanctuary
Bring your little ones (toddlers through kindergarteners) in their PJs, a chanukiyah and candles, and a blanket to sit on. We will sing songs, learn the story of Chanukah, have a snack in the social hall and light our candles together. No RSVP required.
Johnny Doughnuts is Back!
5:45 pm, in front of the synagogue
Johnny Doughnuts will be back with its doughnut truck, serving our version of sufganiyot as well as hot chocolate and coffee before services. There is no better way to ruin your dinner than a doughnut (or two) on a Friday evening - c'mon, it's Chanukah!
Shabbat services
6:15 pm, Sanctuary
Every year on the Shabbat during Chanukah, we invite people to bring their menorahs from home to light in our sanctuary. While you're at it, bring a new, unwrapped toy for the San Rafael Santa Cops to distribute to kids in need. Come fill our sanctuary with light and joy and music!

Provide food for Christmas dinner at Homeward Bound - December 25

Each year, Rodef Sholom hosts a Christmas dinner for 80 homeless adults at the Homeward Bound New Beginnings Shelter in Novato, and we need your help to make sure everyone leaves with a full belly. Make their holidays a little brighter by volunteering to provide a turkey, potatoes, salad, rolls, dessert, cranberry sauce, dessert, and other dishes for this special dinner. Provide one item or several! Sign up here.

In the Bin (look for the barrels in our lobby!)
We are collecting new, unwrapped toys to be distributed by San Rafael Santa Cops to kids in need during the holiday season. We are also collecting warm jackets, raincoats and sleeping bags for the unsheltered in the community which will be distributed by the St. Vincent de Paul Dining Room.
